RWANDA FAMILY MEDICINE PROGRAM

The FM-program in Rwanda started in 2008 and was supported by the University of Colorado with a grant form CDC Atlanta.
PIH (Partners in Health) with NUR (National University of Rwanda), Faculty of medicine, department of family medicine.
FAMCO (family medicine and community health MMed training) is a 4 year Program and started in 2008, with presently 12 trainees. The first group of 7 trainees is in their 3rd year and the 2nd group of 5 trainees is in their 1st year.
Michel Miller is the acting head of the training. There is no department of FM yet. Ruanda is improving fast: read the country report on health
Mieke Visser (a former tropical doctor and an MPH in public health) was supported by the Primafamed Edulink ACP EU project. In this project a number of universities collaborate around increasing the awareness of FM.  Mieke organised the community health rotation in the training.

A lot of teaching material was made available by PIH and Mieke, to be used for trainnig in FM.
